Community Archaeology: Dig Tralee!

Summer 2023 was the second year of DIG TRALEE, a major archaeological excavation at Knockanacuig, the site of a prehistoric monument complex on the western side of the town. The aim of the project is to explore this ancient monument and uncover what role it might have played in the origins of Tralee. The dig is led by a team of professional archaeologists with support from community volunteers. If you are interested in archaeology and history, like working outdoors, and are keen to learn new skills by working alongside experts, why not consider participating in Dig Tralee next summer! If you are interested or would like to find out more, contact us at info@kerrymuseum.ie.

The duration of each workshop is about 45 minutes and will cover two or three objects on display or from the museum’s reserve collection. We can accommodate 8-10 participants living with dementia and their support person (max capacity per workshop is 20pax). Azure tours are free of charge but need to be booked by contacting the museum’s Education Officer Claudia Köhler at education@kerrymuseum.ie.
