Daily Sketch newspaperA set of Daily Sketch newspapers was donated in 1993, with editions dating from April 27, April 28, April 29, May 1, May 2 and May 3 1916. The paper has extensive coverage of the Rising in Dublin, the arrest of Roger Casement, the progress of World War I, and the attitudes in Britain and Ireland to the War. There are also lighter articles and advertisements which give us an insight into everyday life at the time. The significance of this object lies in its value as a contemporary visual resource. It allows us to investigate how the story of the Rising and the arrest of Casement were reported in 1916. It also allows us to see these events set within the contemporary context of coverage of World
War I.

These newspapers were conserved in autumn 2013 with funding from the Heritage Council.
