Heritage Week 2010 at Kerry County Museum(Saturday 21 August - Sunday 29 August 2010)
As part of Heritage Week 2010, Kerry County Museum is hosting a number of events for the community.
In addition to our Summer Family Fun (children go free and adults are €5 only), we also host a special promotion for grandparents visiting with their grandchildren, an exciting special exhibition and two historical evening lectures. We would love to see you at Kerry County Museum during Heritage Week!

Grandparents! Grab your grandchildren and visit for free on a Gran-Day Out! See our new exhibition 'Kerry Lives 1950-73'. 'Kerry Lives' shows amazing pictures from the Kennelly Archive. Big days, everyday events, sport and festivals - beautifully captured on film.
THE ROSE OF TRALEE - 50 YEARS OF GLAMOUR & FASHION

Come and see the fabulous dresses, shoes and jewellery worn by the Roses of Tralee over the past 50 years. Exhibition highlights include a re-creation of the first ever dress worn by Alice O' Sullivan, captivating photographs and fascinating memorabilia.
Lecture by Rob Vance: Forgotten World - Ireland & Kerry in the 16th Century

Writer, photographer and Kerry resident Rob Vance challenges our understanding of the past in his provocative talk about 16th century Ireland. In this violent and elusive era of Irish history colonialism destroyed an ancient civilization. Can it be found again?
Lecture by Cristina Aguilera: Saoirse! Saoirse! Saoirse! Ireland's historical and cultural ties with Argentina

Cristina Aguilera, member of the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society, presents an illustrated talk about Argentina's ties with Ireland. Today, some 500.000 Argentinean citizens are of Irish descent. The talk explores Irish influence on politics, arts and culture in Argentina.

Living History Events for Heritage Week 2009
(Saturday 22 August - Sunday 30 August 2009)As part of Heritage Week 2009, Kerry County Museum is hosting a number of exciting living history events for the community. In addition to our Summer Family Fun (children go free and adults are €5 only), there are also free guided tours of the Medieval Experience for adults and families every day. Guided tours are followed by a sampling of medieval food in Cafe Essence at the Museum. Chefs Daniel and Richard will also offer an alternative medieval menu for the duration of Heritage Week. Food, cooking and table manners will also be the subject of an early evening Talk and Food Tasting Event at Cafe Essence on Saturday 29 August at 5pm. Please note that prior booking is essential for all events as places are strictly limited.

Saints & Sinners: LIFE IN MEDIEVAL TRALEE
Guided tours for adults: DAILY AT 11.30AM
Pigs, poverty and pestilence... but there was fun too! Explore life and death in medieval Tralee and find out why the Fitzgeralds who founded the town in 1216 also ordered Tralee to be completely destroyed in the 1580s. FANCY A PIGEON PIE? FOOD IN MEDIEVAL IRELAND
Talk and Food Tasting: SATURDAY 29 AUGUST AT 5PM
Sorry, no spuds! And no tea, coffee or chocolate either... What did people eat in the past and how do we know about it? This talk will explore the subjects of medieval food, the "dos and don'ts" at the dinner table and what medieval bones can tell us about the diet of the rich and the poor. The talk will take place in Cafe Essence at the Museum.
