Lunchtime Talk: Reconsidering Tom Crean

August 23 @ 1:00 am - 1:45 pm

| Free

It is over sixteen years since KCM created its award-winning Antarctica exhibition which centred around the polar exploits of Annascaul man Tom Crean. Since then Tom has gone from being an unsung hero to an iconic figure, featuring in everything from the primary school curriculum to a Guinness ad. In that time, too, the original exhibition has changed its shape and location within the Museum. It will now change again, as the Museum has drawn up plans for a major enhancement of the Tom Crean display. In this talk Curator Helen O’Carroll reflects on the original exhibition and its evolution over the past sixteen years and talks us through the new plans. Along the way she will consider the enduring fascination of the Tom Crean story and how the new display will give us different perspectives, not only on the man himself but on our own lives today. This free event is organised as part of National Heritage Week. All welcome.
